Day in the life of a Matriculation College student, Labuan.

Assalamualaikum and good day.

Reading through this blog, I’m sure you must be a matriculation student to be, right?
I’m Hisyam. I just graduated from Labuan Matriculation College on June 5th, 2018, a PST student from module 3 (biochemistry) 17/18. I was initially from module 1 (BioPhysics), but I changed to module 3 after a short consideration. Well, I’ve no regret.  Matriculation life was a really good memory that won’t fade, it’ll last forever. For about 10 months there, I’ve lived my life to the fullest, although every day was tough. I still managed to get through it. Here, I’m going to share tips and my experience during the first day there. Who knows might be helpful for you.

1. First-day student registration.
Monday, June 5th, 2017, 1108 hours, was the first day I stepped into college life. Honestly, I feel nothing special about it. During that time, puberty hit me really hard. I have acne bloomed all over my face and it was really shameful that I can’t even get my head straight while walking. No confidence at all. Also, it was Ramadhan back then, so it was quite tiring to get used to a totally new dependant environment. I did everything on my own. Applause. ^^

Firstly, I went to Dewan Mutiara, DM to get my Slip Pendaftaran Pelajar. On the paper is stated information including my Matrix Number, I/C, Bank Account Number (for allowance purpose), What Module, Blok kediaman also senarai cenderahati (COCO and Outing T-shirts, a hat with LMC logo, a bag, a white lab coat, borang perjanjian, and salinan slip BSN). The boy's hostel is situated quite far from every facility in the college as compared to girls. Yet, Café is just near the hostel, so no worries (even the food sometimes quite upsetting) maybe due to poor presentation and tidiness compared to Café A, but the fried chicken is the biggest you can find there. I brought along with me so many necessary stuff hence my mom and I were all drained + were fasting that day + have to travel really far to bring all stuff + my room was in level three ^^ (TIPS: if you want to be placed in level one be sure to do the registration as soon as possible online so they’ll book a room for you at a lower level).

Another extra shot ( I like this oneee!)

Orange - Outing Outfit
Another extra of me using Koko shirt

For the girl, the hostel is situated near many facilities, including the lecture hall (5 minutes walking*), tutorial classes (5 minutes walking*), Menara Pentadbiran (5 minutes walking*) Pusat Islam (average 5 minutes walking, depends which block you’re*)
* for normal people.

After I placed my stuff in my room, I immediately went to Library for a photography session (they’ll put the picture on your matrix card TIPS: be sure to dress well and apply make-up if necessary the camera pixel is saddening also bring along a pen and a glue and a photo with passport size) You’ll be asked to fill in the form for matrix card purposes then you’ll be placed into an LDK group for Minggu Pengurusan Pelajar Bahatu MPPB is a sort of orientation. Mine was LDK 55. Yours? Comment down bellow J

Then I returned to my room and get to know with my roommates.
1. Nasrullah Bin Kamba (account student)
2. Mohd Ariffin (Science student module 3)
3. Mecly Momin (science student module 3 -moved within 2 months to another room)

I missed them all. They’re precious to me especially Nasrullah Kamba who helped me a lot with maths (even he was taking maths account) LOL and also helped me brought 3/5 of my bags during our journey back to our respective hometown saying a real goodbye to LMC life. and Mecly Momin who also helped me during I was ill. Imagine I was having a severe stomach ache and he was the one who escorted me to Fello (Warden), and I was scoop-and-run to Trauma Department in Hospital Labuan. It happened twice, and both were a day out during he was doing his revision and I was screaming and rolling in the deep like crazy out of the painful stomach. Ariffin – hmmm I don’t really have much to talk about him cuhs he spent his final semester in his friend’s room so we were literally apart for the final 5 months. Yet, for the first 5 months, I feel sorry for him. I know my loud alarm in the morning has something to do with his transition to another room, but what could I do. I really need to wake up really early as I need like an hour for a shower, a half an hour for my skin concern plus my hairdo (it actually depends, sometimes it may take up to an hour – cuhs I shampoo and conditioner my hair every morning and evening also have to blow dry too J) HAHAHA LOL.

The day when we were departing back to our respective hometown

The day Nasrullah was helping me with maths (1st semester)
The day I was hospitalized. Thanks to Mecly

A SPECIAL DESCRIBE AND FEATURE ABOUT MY ROOMATE
.

During the evening, there was Bazaar Ramadhan, sooo many foods were sold. I break my fast with Tamar (I brought all the way from my hometown). Then, went to Pusat Islam Surau Al-Irfan PISAI, to perform Maghreb and Isyak + short tazkirah.

I don’t want to talk much about Minggu Pengurusan Pelajar Baharu MPPB, cuhs its different every year. There is a case that it’ll last for two to three days and some case it’ll last for a week. Depends.

During the MPPB, seniors from the previous batch are going to assist and help you to fit the environment. If you cannot, then they’ll induce you until you can fit the environment. They’ll show you around the college. Where is Lecture Hall, Tutorial Classes, Menara Pentadbiran, Lab, and so on is situated. You may ask them if you’ve any further inquiries TIPS: Do not fall over your seniors too early due to their physical appearance because there are many more seniors that might be much more good looking ^^
Few things that you’ve to assure within the week:

1. Complete the Borang Perjanjian (You cannot receive your allowance if something not right about
your borang perjanjian, Joshimhae)- Please tell your friend about this too as “1 masalah semua kena”

2. Borang asrama – Nothing special, just do as told.

3. Claim your cenderahati. –Be courage about your size, if you’re s size than ask for s size, if you’re XXL size than ask for XXL size. Tell them “I pay for it!” Otherwise, you’ll regret it later on.
This is us during COQ (short term of Koko). My outfit fits me the best :)

4. You’ll be given a chance to change your module or your course. Yet the process is really tough. You’ll need to get a form from the counseling unit and consult with the counselor. Tell them the reason why you want to change your course or module, then hand in the form to Hal Ehwal Pelajar, HEP. Your request will be processed within a week. BUT, account student who wants to change to science is not allowed ^^

For living expenses, on average you’ll spend less than RM100 if you’re disciplined and using money wisely. Fried chicken is sold at RM2, Rice RM1, Vegetables also RM1.
So if you had your healthy meals and balance diet three times a day
·         Breakfast RM3 - Kuih Muih and Water
·         Lunch - RM5 Nasi, ikan/ayam, sayur and water
·         Dinner – RM5 Nasi, ikan/ayam, sayur and water.
Usually, plain water is free of charge.
Total approximately RM13 a day * 7 days =RM91

Versi Jimat:
·         Breakfast – biscuits/bread (you bought earlier from outside)
·         Lunch – RM4 Nasi, ikan/ayam, sayur.
·         Dinner –RM4 Nasi, ikan/ayam, sayur.
The water you can buy from a water dispenser. 20 cents for 200 ml if I’m not mistaken.
Total approximately RM8 a day * 7 days = RM56

I’ve many more to share in the upcoming post. If you have any questions, feel free to direct message on Instagram @uoit24 or through Facebook @Saem Dean, or simply comment down below. Please notice my next update J
