Are local skincares harmful? My TRUE experience!

This entry contains a confidential writer's past!

Assalamualaikum and Good day everyone.
For the first time ever, I am doing a suicidal confession! Keep reading...

It’s been a few months from the day I was suffering from a severe breakout on my face and now I am 80% recuperated from it. I was striving fighting with depression due to the imbalance hormone regulations, unwise stress management and also probably because of an unhealthy diet and lack of physical exercise. Before we proceed with the tips, I hereby denounce the effect of using skincare that contains controlled drugs on my face. I believe that the main reason why I was suffering from a severe breakout is due to the use of skincare that contains mercury! I stopped using it immediately after I realized an extreme and rapid negative change my skin has experienced! I became very sensitive towards sun rays (like a serious and unusual sensitiveness, even exposed in a very short period of time) and turned my skin to become pinkish. It didn’t stop there; acne was also blooming all over my face like it was being fertilized! I am one of the victims of harmful skincare. I hope you are not one of us! If you are a part of us, I welcome your experience in the comment box down below.

Since then, I started using back skincare from drugstores (Watsons, Guardian) that I used to apply on my face every day. I am a typical hero who is extremely sensitive about looks and would never be careless about it, although I once did. Of course, education is important, but obviously, looks are equally important too! Wherever you go, everyone is being stereotypical about our look. That’s just how this world works.

My skin feels itchy and I always wanted to scratch but I couldn't because I was afraid if it will get worse.

Right.

These are all the solid shreds of evidence that prove the purity of my words. This terrifying past is nothing but a true self-experience that I don’t make up myself and I don't want to recall.  During the time, my skin felt extremely displeasure and itchy. I tried a few alternatives such as have an early beauty sleep 8 hours a day, drink plenty of water, consume fruits with high vitamin C and antioxidant and many more. Shockingly, nothing of all these stated methods help rectify my concern. One day, during late dawn after I performed prayers, I got a few messages through WhatsApp. I checked a few of them before I went through my family group chat. I WAS SOOOOOO SHOCKED TO READ THIS ONE MESSAGE SHARED BY MOM. She forwarded to us the list of skincare that contains controlled drugs and the use of them should be supervised under strict supervision by experts (Dermatologist). At first sight, I didn’t believe the list she forwarded to us (sorry mom). Hence, I browsed myself to the MOE website to verify either the list is true or not. SHOCKINGLY! IT WAS TRUE!!! I’ve been using skincare that contains harsh and harmful chemicals all this time and it drives me insane! I immediately stop using this sh*t skincare, and once again browse through Google to find related articles to support this new discovery, and this is what I found!

I don’t want to mention the brand of the product I used myself, so that is the reason why I gather all this undeniable concrete evidences. I will chop you if you want to say that I am “Melayu cuba tutup periuk nasi Melayu”.

Now moving on. If you are a person who is having a skin concern, I suggest you browse and get your products from ONLY drugstores (Watson or Guardian), or at pharmacies and department stores like Sephora because most of the products sold there are dermatologically tested and safe to be used. This does not necessarily mean that all local brands are bad, there are so many local brands that are trustable, and thus it's all up to consumers to be wiser in choosing your skincare range. If you persist and still want to use the local product (maybe because you are very supportive to our local) that is sold in Tokoh-Tokoh Jamu, go on, because not all of them are harmful to users. Yet, please follow these few instructions to refrain any risks that may get on your skin J

First:
Browse through the MOE site to check the latest update of products that contain harmful chemicals or controlled drugs. Where to check? Click here. If the product you are interested with is listed, just forget about it and find something else.

Secondly:
Check the integrity of the brand in producing their products. Things to tick are;
  • Approved by the MOE and safe to be used (Click here to check)
  • Halal Certified
  • GMP Certified (To read further click here)
  • Ingredients used (This is really important if you have any allergies towards specific substances)

Thirdly:
Check the price. Few local skincare that competes with other skincare from drugstores usually sold with unaffordable prices (for students, or people with high salary and commitment or low salary and high commitment). Thus, checking this step is important too to ensure consistent use of the product. Imagine if you’re purchasing a product with expensive price, you might suffer to buy it again and probably you will decide to change your skincare regime, in other words being inconsistent with the use of skincare might be risky for your skin. This is obviously not a good thing! Please don’t ask me why you should know it better than me.

Fourthly:
Compare. You should consider doing a comparison. For instance, if your parents want to get you a gift for your excellent performance in UPSR or PT3 or SPM or STPM or STAM or Matriculation Programme or Foundation Program and you are asked to choose either a branded outfit by Louis Vuitton or the one that is sold in Pasar Malam, which one will you choose? Tell me in the comment box down below. I am not undermining our unique pasar malam, but this is just an example to make you understand better plus it’s a gift! I am also not undermining our local products because I am also using many local products, but when it comes to our health and safeties we should consider it wisely. Otherwise, you will regret it.

Fifthly:
Check monthly the integrity of local product that you use, because there are many cases reported that the founder of the products changes their formulation by adding controlled drugs and harmful chemicals to boost the temporary effectiveness of their products. Where to check? Browse through the NPRA website. Click here.

Lastly:
Please remember, we are discussing the use of local skincare, right? After a week using the skincare, please supervise if there are any changes to your skin. Any rapid negatives nor positives changes should catch your attention because there are only two possibilities. First, the founder might have changed the formulation and probably contain the harmful chemicals. The other possibility is that skincare might be suitable for you. In the nutshell, always be alert about the product you are currently using.

This is me after I stop using the local skincare that contains controlled drugs plus harmful chemicals and start using back the skincare I used to apply on that I bought from drugstores. To be completely honest, it took about a year for me to recuperate physically and emotionally from this tragedy. Do you have any similar experience? Feel free to share with us in the comment box down below. If you are curious about the skincare that I used to heal my concern, please subscribe because I am going to expose the secret in the upcoming writing J
